How Timer Relays Work
The main components in a timer relay are a timing circuit, a relay mechanism, and one or more contact sets. The relay mechanism can vary from electromagnetic or solid-state. The contacts sets can be either normally open or normally closed. The timer relay has to be activated by a control signal or voltage applies and then it begins counting based on the predetermined time the timer is set to. After the delay, the relay mechanism switched the output contacts to either opening or closing them. Some timer relays reset automatically and others require manual or electrical reset.Types of Timers
- On-delay timer relay: After power is applied, the delay starts and once the time expires the contacts change state.
- Off-delay timer relay:A loss in power triggers the timing to begin. After the delay, the contacts revert to their original state.
- Interval timer relay: The contacts change state immediately on activation. The timer reverts back to its original state after a fixed period.
- Repeat cycle/ flasher timer relay: Cycles on and off continuously based on two timing values.
- One-shot timer :A shoty pulse starts a fixed-time output
